ARCHBISHOP MTETEMELA VISITS HOLY TRINITY

We owe a debt of gratitude to Archbishop Donald L. Mtetemela, who officiated and preached at a Choral Evensong service at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on April 15, 2008.  Archbishop Mtetemela, one of the 38 primates (provincial leaders) of the Anglican Communion, has been the head of Tanzania’s approximately four million Anglicans since 1998. In addition, he chairs the Christian Council of Tanzania, consisting of 13 denominations, is the Chancellor of St. John’s University of Tanzania, and is one of the most prominent Christian leaders in the Global South.

Archbishop Mtetemela’s visit to the Eastern Shore was part of a visit to the United States to raise awareness of St. John’s University of Tanzania, and the needs of that institution. St. John’s University was founded by the Anglican Church of Tanzania in 1999 to provide higher education in the different aspects of education in Tanzania that will respond to the country’s needs of eradicating extreme poverty, hunger and disease and thus provide improved life expectancy to its people. An offering for St. John’s University was received at the service.  If you missed this historic occasion, you can still help St. John's University.  Your donations can be sent by check payable to "St. John's University" and mailed to the Very Reverend RJ Johnson, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 338, Onancock, VA  23417.  Father Johnson will forward your offerings to the Archbishop.
